Mad Women: The life -and death- of three women artists living with bipolar

Witty, fierce and fearless. Mad Women is a play inspired by three outstanding Latin American women artists who struggled with bipolar disorder. It is a fictional portrayal of Frida Khalo, Violeta Parra and Judith Marquez’s mental journeys from life to death, in the form of intertwined monologues.

From its own name, Mad Women fights the stereotypes and stigmas of what has historically meant to “be a woman” with mental health challenges. This is a brutally honest conversation about sexuality, motherhood, gender oppression and the role of women in arts, as artists and muses.

Mad Women is a project funded by the Arts Council England and led by Latinx director and playwright, Constanza Hola Chamy. It has been produced in partnership with St Margaret’s House, London.
